This is the 2022 Rickenbacker 4085/8SPC Double Redneck Bass #1, built by Famous Guitar Replicas. It started life as a stock 4003S, which was essentially “stretched” into a doubleneck, much in the same way a body shop stretches a Cadillac into a limousine, and then completed in the style of the SPC line from the late 1980s. No, this is not a factory-built model, but it doesn’t change the pedigree of the build. Make no mistake, modified as it is, this is still a Rickenbacker.
It is the only one of its kind. Featuring a 5-string and 8-string configuration — if you can’t hold down the bottom with 13 strings, time to give it up.
Controls are straightforward:
– Master volume and tone per neck
– 3-way selector for the 5-string neck
– 3-position mini rotary for the 8-string pickups
– 3-way selector for the necks, not limited to 2-way like the 4080s were
Wired mono with a toaster pickup in each neck and a hi-gain in each bridge, as were the SPC basses.
The bass has less than an hour of total play time since completion — essentially new old stock. I do not have a custom case for it but it will be expertly packed. It also weighs 15.8 lbs.
